How Do I Sell My Car, You Ask?

You may have asked yourself, how do I sell my car? These days, it's easier than ever! Not so long ago we were limited to running an ad in the local paper (which costs money) or parking it with a big sign on it in the front yard. That method still works very well, by the way, but we are no longer so limited in the ways we can market our vehicles. Let's look at some newer ideas.

Besides the local paper, there are auto trader magazines of various types, where you can get your vehicle listed with a photo. There are also online versions to these same publications. Beyond those, you can take your sales efforts online by utilizing sites like Craigslist, BackPage and other online classifieds. Most of these are free, and get a great deal of exposure. A lot of these ads even show up in Google's search engine results when a searcher types in a geographically specific query.

Another great way to use your online abilities would be to “advertise” your car on the social networks you frequent. Tweeting about your car with a link to it just might get you a few looks. Same things on Facebook and MySpace, and you can utilize photos there as well. Just don't make it an overt sales page and you'll be fine.

Make sure you have all the car's documentation on hand before you try and sell it, and don't try and hide anything. You'll be found out. Clean and detail the vehicle as best you can before showing it to anyone.

The bottom line is to use as many avenues as possible to get the word out about your car. This will ensure that you get enough people looking so you can get the price you're after.
